Georgia Highlands College baseball swept a doubleheader with Macomb CC (Michigan) Sunday at LakePoint, winning 16-5 and 9-2 over the Monarchs. In the first game, the Chargers scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and added nine more over the next three innings for a runaway win. Four Georgia Highlands pitchers — Gage Vailes, Garrett Sagro, Keegan Pulford-Thorpe, and Bubba Luke — combined to limit Macomb to just three earned runs on six hits and four walks. Vailes recorded six strikeouts in the first four innings to earn the win. Ethan Anderson had three hits for the Chargers including a double and one RBI. Ben Olson had two hits including a grand slam. Caden Smith (2 RBIs) and Zayd Brannigan also finished with two hits including a double each. David Smith contributed a double and three RBIs and Conner Todaro tossed in one hit. Austin Slate, Parker Poteet, and Austin Tienda each added one RBI. The Chargers’ offense continued its success in Game 2. GHC scored in each of the first four frames and grabbed an early 9-0 lead before finishing off the Monarchs in a seven-run win. Eric Moore (6 IP, 2R, 0ER, 7H, 1BB, 10K) struck out ten in a six inning start for the Chargers. Zachary Murray (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K) wrapped up the final inning on the mound with a pair of strikeouts. Ben Olson paced the Chargers’ attack with three hits including a double and two RBIs. Caden Smith had two hits including a home run and two RBIs. Conner Todaro also finished with two hits and two RBIs and Parker Poteet contributed a two hit game. Ethan Anderson drove in two runs with one hit. Max Kops, David Smith, and Mick Moody added one hit apiece. Macomb falls to 1-9 on the season with the two losses. Georgia Highlands (23-2) will square off with the Monarchs again Monday in an 11 a.m. first pitch at LakePoint before hosting Cleveland State CC Tuesday (3 p.m.) and a doubleheader with Brewton Parker College Wednesday (1 p.m.)

Camden Hillhouse scored three goals and assisted on another as the Cass boys soccer team won at Hiram Friday night, 10-1. The Colonels built a 4-0 lead by the intermission and added to their lead in the second half. Christian Villella scored a goal and assisted on three scores. Juan Pajarito contributed one goal and one assist. Carlos Morales, Grayson Dysart, Kayden Pineda, Jose Rodriguez, and Jordan Solis added one goal apiece. Alex Hernandez assisted on three of the scores. The loss dropped Hiram to 0-8-1 on the season and 0-2 in Region 7-AAAAA. The Colonels (8-3-1, 2-1) host a non-region match with North Murray Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Blessed Trinity Friday for a key region game with the Titans at 5:30 p.m. HIRAM 3, CASS GIRLS 0 The Lady Hornets scored twice in the opening half and added an insurance goal in the second half to defeat visiting Cass Friday night, 3-0. The win for the Hiram girls (1-10, 1-1) was their first of the season. The Lady Colonels (2-8-1, 0-3) play North Murray at home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and travel to Blessed Trinity for a 7:30 p.m. Friday night. CALHOUN SOCCER TEAMS SWEEP WOODLAND FOR REGION WINS The Calhoun girls and boys soccer teams both shut out their opponents from Woodland Friday night in Region 7-AAAAA games. The Calhoun girls defeated the Lady Cats 2-0 and the Calhoun boys blanked the Wildcats, 3-0. The Lady Jackets improved to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Yellow Jackets are now 3-6-1 overall and also 2-1 in the region. The Woodland girls (5-4-2, 1-2) play at Kennesaw Mountain Tuesday in a 6 p.m. match and will host Cartersville Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Woodland boys (5-4-2, 1-2) return to their home pitch Friday night against local region rival Cartersville at 7 p.m. BLESSED TRINITY BLANKS CARTERSVILLE TEAMS The Cartersville girls and boys soccer teams lost Region 7-AAAAA matchups at Blessed Trinity Friday night. The Lady Canes were shut out 10-0 and the Cartersville boys were blanked 9-0. The Blessed Trinity girls improved to 10-1-1 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Titans’ boys team improved to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the region. The Cartersville girls (3-7-1, 1-1) and boys (5-6-1, 0-2) have two region matches this week. The Hurricanes host Hiram Tuesday and play at Woodland Friday.

The Cartersville High School girls and boys track and field teams both came away with fourth-place finishes Thursday night at the Central-Carroll Lion Meet in Carrollton. The Central-Carroll girls and boys teams were winners in their respective competitions and each scored an identical 206 points. The Bremen girls were runner-up with 105 points followed by LaGrange (96) and Cartersville (74) in the nine-team meet. The LaGrange boys were runner-up with 110 points followed by Bremen (108.5) and Cartersville (97). There were also nine teams in the boys' competition. Sonoraville posted five runs in the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead and never trailed in a 6-2 win Friday night at Cass. Two Phoenix pitchers — Dawson Townsend and AJ Hensley — combined to scatter five hits and two walks while striking out ten Colonels. Chase Botts (4 IP, 5ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) started on the mound for Cass and was tagged with the loss. Devan Hutchinson (2 IP, 1ER, 3H) and Aidan Larkin (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K) also pitched for the Colonels. Zach Lyles had three hits including a triple for Sonoraville (6-3). Kannon England and Townsend both drove in two runs each for the Phoenix. Jesiel Moctezuma had two hits for the Cass offense. Larkin finished with a hit and two RBIs. Bentley Markley contributed a double and Chris Cabe had the other Cass base hit. Cass (1-11) begins region play Tuesday at Hiram at 5:55 p.m. seeking to end a seven-game skid. The Colonels will complete a three-game region series with the Hornets Friday at home starting at 5 p.m.

Jacob Gravett smacked a one-out, RBI-double into center field Friday night to lift the Woodland Wildcats to a walk-off, extra-inning win over visiting East Paulding 3-2. The extra base hit scored Jakiyon Porter, who had walked to start the Wildcats’ eighth inning, with the game-winning run. The clutch hit ended what was otherwise a pitching duel between the two clubs. Both teams finished the night with only four total hits. East Paulding utilized four different pitchers that combined for 15 strikeouts and six walks. Woodland’s Rowan Billings (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) picked up the pitching victory for the Wildcats after retiring all three outs in the eighth inning. Nate Rosser (4.1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 4BB, 3K) was the Woodland starter and worked into the fifth inning. Conner Stermer (2.2 IP, 0R, 1BB, 4K) fanned four in an eight-out, scoreless stint. Ayden Ray had one hit and one RBI for Woodland. Julian Wright and Porter had the other Wildcats’ hits. The loss drops East Paulding to 5-8 on the season. Woodland (7-5) begins a three-game Region 7-5A series at 3rd-ranked Blessed Trinity Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. The Wildcats will then complete the series with a home doubleheader against the Titans next Friday at 5 p.m.

Cartersville out hit Alexander eight to six Friday night, but the Cougars came out ahead on the scoreboard defeating the Purple Hurricanes 5-4. The Canes led 2-0 with single runs in the first and third innings before Alexander took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third, 3-2. Caleb Daniel drove in both early runs for Cartersville with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a bases loaded fielder’s choice groundout in the third. Two singles and a fielder’s choice pushed home the Cougars first run in the bottom of the third inning and a two-run homer by Ben Thomas put them ahead. Cartersville tied the game in the top of the fifth on Jimbo Gaines’ RBI single but the Cougars regained the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Breydon Divine doubled to set up Terrance Bowen’s RBI hit. The Hurricanes narrowed Alexander’s lead to one run in the top of the sixth, but got no closer. Daniel singled to start the Canes’ sixth inning and Drew Rothschild doubled him home. Kole Orshoski (7 IP, 4ER, 8H, 1BB, 5K) tossed a complete game to earn the pitching win for Alexander. He fanned five. Colt McKibbon (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 0BB, 3K) took the pitching loss for Cartersville in relief of starter Caden Carroll (4 IP, 3ER, 4H, 1BB, 7K). The two Canes’ hurlers combined for ten strikeouts. Divine, Bowen, and Thomas combined for six hits and three RBIs for the Cougars. Blake Sutton had two hits for Cartersville. Daniel (2 RBI), Rothschild (double, RBI), Gaines (RBI), Curt Bonner, Elliott Eastin, and Jacob Ray (double) added one hit apiece. Alexander evened its season record at 5-5. Cartersville (7-3) begins play in Region 7-5A Tuesday at home against Calhoun. The two teams, both currently ranked in the Top Ten of multiple Class 5A polls, will complete their three-game series Friday with a doubleheader at Calhoun.

The Adairsville girls soccer team evened its Region 6-AAA record and earned its sixth win of the year with a 3-1 win Thursday night at Sonoraville. Emma Collins, Elle Causby, and Megan Hardin each had early first half goals to give the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead at the intermission. Hardin assisted on the Causby goal in the game’s 8th minute and Causby returned the favor ten minutes later. The Collins goal came off a corner kick in the 6th minute. The loss dropped Sonoraville to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in region play. Adairsville (6-2-1, 2-2) travels to Ringgold next Tuesday. SONORAVILLE 6, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 3 The home-standing Phoenix defeated the Adairsville boys Thursday night, 6-3, in Region 6-AAA action. Sonoraville improved to 4-4-2 overall and 2-0 in region games with the victory. Adairsville (4-7, 1-3) plays at Ringgold Tuesday in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Cass girls team finished first and the Cass boys were second Thursday at the Gordon Central High School quad meet in Calhoun. In total, Cass athletes won 12 different events and three relays. The Lady Colonels scored 87 points to outscore runner-up Sonoraville by 16 points. Armuchee was third with 53 points followed by Gordon Central with 42. In the boys meet, Sonoraville scored 113 points to outdistance Cass (86), Gordon Central (40), and Armuchee (30). The attached file includes all individual results.

The Cartersville girls and boys tennis teams split matches Thursday afternoon with the visiting Model Blue Devils at Dellinger Park. The Lady Canes earned a 3-2 victory while the Cartersville boys lost by an identical 3-2 final score. Adairsville pitchers Brenden Carroll and Peyton Bowen combined to limit Cass to five hits and one earned run Thursday evening as the visiting Tigers beat the Colonels, 6-2. Adairsville led 5-1 in the second inning and both teams added single runs in the fifth inning. The Tigers out hit the Colonels ten to five. Peyton Bowen paced the Adairsville offense with three hits including a double. Tyler Driggers had two hits and two RBIs. Chris Roper followed with a pair of hits including a double and one RBI. Brenden Carroll (2 RBIs), Braden Powell, and Grayson Belcher added one hit apiece. Dawson Craig had one RBI for the Tigers. Bentley Markley had three of the Colonels’ five hits. Wesley Collins and Carson Hill added one hit each. Jesiel Moctezuma drove in a run for Cass with a fielder’s choice. Carroll (5.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 4BB, 4K) started on the mound for Adairsville and worked into the sixth inning. Bowen (1.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 1K) retired the final five outs for the Tigers. The North Cobb Warriors produced 15 hits Wednesday night at LakePoint on their way to a 12-1 win over the Woodland Wildcats. North Cobb led 5-0 early and added to their advantage with two runs in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh. Woodland scored its run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 5-1 at the time. Jakiyon Porter had an RBI single that scored Chase Carson after he had singled to open the frame. Mason Williams had the Wildcats other two hits in the game. Woodland starting pitcher Ayden Ray (3.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 7H, 3BB, 5K) suffered the loss. Coby Barrett (2.1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB) and Noah Herring (1 IP, 5ER, 4H, 2BB, 2K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats. North Cobb improved to 9-1 with the victory. Woodland (6-5) is scheduled to host East Paulding Friday at 5:55 p.m.

The Purple Hurricanes gave up the lead late Wednesday night to visiting Ringgold at LakePoint and managed only three hits in the game but Cartersville took advantage of two walks and a pair of errors in the bottom of the seventh to sneak out a 5-4 non-region win over the Tigers. Ringgold scored a single run in the top of the first and maintained that lead until the Canes scored three times in the bottom of the fifth. Starting pitchers Ross Norman of Ringgold and Ryan Johnson of Cartersville kept their opponents off balance in the early going. Norman (4.2 IP, 3R, 0ER, 3H, 5BB, 7K) struck out seven and Johnson (5 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 6K) fanned six. Geoffrey Gore (1.2 IP, 3ER, 1H, 3BB, 3K) worked into the seventh inning for the Canes with Collin Eaton (0.1 IP, 1BB, 1K) picking up the win by retiring the final out. Cartersville grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning with just two hits. Harrison Childers and Miles Owen singled to start the frame before Blake Sutton reached on an error to load the bases. Childers was cut down at home plate trying to score on a wild pitch but Owen scored to make it 1-1 on an ensuing wild pitch. After Curt Bonner and Elliott Eastin both walked, Caleb Daniel reached on a ground ball to score Sutton. Drew Rothschild then drew the third walk of the inning to force in Cartersville’s third run. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh on just one base hit. A hit batsman and four walks in the inning gave Ringgold the lead prior to the Purple Hurricanes’ comeback. Bonner reached on a ground ball error to start the Canes’ half of the seventh inning. That was followed by consecutive walks to Eastin and Rothschild to load the bases. Hank Smith grounded into a fielder’s choice that drove in a run making the score 4-4 and then Eastin scored the game winning run when Childers’ grounder was misplayed by the Tigers’ shortstop. Ringgold’s loss drops the Tigers to 3-7 on the season. Cartersville (7-2) plays at Harrison Friday at 5:55 p.m.
