Cass teams sweep visiting Adairsville Tuesday night
The Cass girls and boys basketball teams made a clean sweep of visiting Adairsville Tuesday night.
The Lady Colonels took the opener 67-29 and the Colonels won a back-and-forth battle with the Tigers, 63-56.
CASS BOYS 63, ADAIRSVILLE 56
The Cass boys took a double-digit lead only to have Adairsville rally late and take the lead before the Colonels pulled away down the stretch for a 63-56 win Tuesday night at Cass.
In fact, the Colonels held the Tigers scoreless over the final three minutes to secure the non-region win.
Cass raced out to a 22-9 lead after the first eight minutes, but the Tigers answered to narrow the margin to 31-30 at halftime. Adairsville took the lead in the third quarter 47-46 before the two teams traded leads through much of the final period.
Jacquez Fountain (photo) had a game-high 26 points to lead the Colonels in the scoring column. C.J. Pipkin followed with 10 points. Justice Hayes accounted for nine. Jordan Ford, Ethan Carter, and Braxton Benham tossed in eight points each for Cass.
Savaun Henderson and Mason Boswell led the Tigers with 17 points each. Danarous Johnson followed with seven. Connor Crunkelton added six. Hayden Poarch scored five. Diego Perez and Malachi Gardner rounded out the Adairsville scoring with two points apiece. The loss drops Adairsville to 4-6 on the season. The Tigers will play host Rockmart Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the GA/Vinyl Thread Shootout at the Rock.
Cass improved to 5-7 on the year with the win. The Colonels will face Cedartown Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round of that same Rockmart Christmas Tournament.
CASS GIRLS 67, ADAIRSVILLE 29
The Cass girls stormed to an early 23-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in taking a 67-29 win at home Tuesday night over visiting Adairsville.
The Lady Tigers were basically playing without their leading scorer, Nakiya Washington. She came off the bench for a few minutes in the first half, but was ineffective and sat the remainder of the contest.
Washington injured her ankle last Saturday and simply had not recovered for Tuesday’s game. Cass led 38-18 at halftime and extended the lead to 57-23 through three quarters.
Sharia Wade and Londaisha Smith (photo) led Cass with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Claire Davis followed with 11. Payton Stoddard had seven points. Alexis Ware contributed five. Brianna Stephenson, Ariana Hames, and Abby Stoddard scored three each. Amber Brittian and Sylvia Wade added two points apiece.
Havyn Isaac led the Lady Tigers with eight points. Alexa Varner scored six. Breanna Wilson tossed in five. Ji’Leyah Mitchell and Coriana McDaniel scored four each. Kaitlynn Stiles added two points for Adairsville.
Adairsville falls to 3-9 on the season with the loss. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play at Cartersville Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Cass (9-2) will face Washington December 27 at 10 a.m. when the three-day Adairsville Ace Hardware Christmas Classic tips off.
