The Cartersville High boys golf team is tied for first place after the opening 18 holes at the GHSA Class 5A State Championship Monday at the par-71, 6,200-yard Green Island Country Club in Columbus.
The Canes and St. Pius X both shot team totals of 299 (15-over-par) in Monday’s opening round. Woodward Academy (301, +17), Starr’s Mill (302, +18), and Wayne County (319, +35) round out the top five with 18 holes remaining.
Cartersville was led by senior and future Georgia Bulldog, Buck Brumlow, who finished the first round with a 72 (1-over-par). Brumlow is tied for the individual lead with Wyatt Seikop of Woodward Academy. Carter Loflin of St. Pius X is alone in third place at 2-over-par, 73.
