The Cartersville Lady Canes and the Cass Lady Colonels kept pace at the top of the Region 7-4A standings on Thursday with wins over Cedartown and Dalton, respectively. In other action on Thursday, Woodland fell at Allatoona, and Adairsville dropped a decision at Heritage-Catoosa.

Cartersville pitcher Zoie Shiflett tossed a complete-game one-hitter Thursday evening as the Lady Canes held off Cedartown 2-1 for a Region 7-4A victory.

Cartersville secured a 2-0 advantage by scoring one run each in the fourth and sixth innings, then thwarted a Lady Bulldogs' rally in the top of the seventh to clinch a one-run victory. Following Cedartown's score from a single and an error, catcher Emilee Brinson caught a runner trying to steal second base, while Shiflett induced a groundout and a strikeout to seal the win.

The 6th-ranked Lady Canes needed only three hits — singles by Kennedy Crenshaw (RBI), Kinsey Woodard, and LaKiaya Banks -- to earn the win.

The loss dropped Cedartown to 10-7 overall and 9-4 in region play.

Cartersville (17-2, 10-2) hosts Dalton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

CASS 9, DALTON 0

The Lady Colonels broke open a scoreless game with Dalton in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs, and then ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with six more Thursday evening at the Cass Athletic Complex.

Bailey York scattered four hits and four walks in the pitching circle to collect the pitching victory for the Lady Colonels. She fanned three.

Kylie Gentry (triple, three RBI), Harlee Thomason (two RBI), KK Evans (double, two RBI), Molli Morrow (RBI), Shyia Woods (RBI), Lindsey Chubb, and Natalie Hughes had one hit apiece for Cass. The Lady Colonels’ offense also took advantage of seven walks.

With their loss, Dalton fell to 0-13 overall and 0-11 in Region 7-4A.

Cass (13-4, 11-2) hosts Woodland on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

ALLATOONA 9, WOODLAND 4

The host Lady Buccaneers built an early 6-1 lead and held on Thursday evening to beat Woodland, 9-4.

The Lady Cats narrowed the margin to 6-4 by the middle of the fifth inning, but 7th-ranked Allatoona added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.

Sonny HIcks hit a solo home run for Woodland in the fourth inning. Gracie Korb (double, RBI), Lillian Hollis (double), Kylee Poston (RBI), and Bailey Ryan added one hit for the Wildcats.

Allatoona improved to 8-4 overall and 8-4 in Region 7-4A

The fifth-ranked Lady Generals scored at least one run in all six innings Thursday evening during a 13-4 win at Adairsville, although Heritage only out-hit the Lady Tigers 10 to 9.

The Generals led 4-2 through two innings and 5-3 after three before posting eight runs across their final three offensive frames.

Ashlyn Carlton (0.1 IP, 3ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K) made the pitching start for Adairsville and was tagged with the loss. Chloe Hill (1.1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB) and Maddie Baggett (4.1 IP, 9R, 5ER, 7H, 1BB, 1K) also pitched for the Tigers.
