Colonels outlast Sonoraville; Wildcats fall at Whitefield Academy

The Cass Colonels completed a two-game regular season sweep of the Sonoraville Phoenix on Friday with an 8-7 win in Gordon County.



CASS 8, SONORAVILLE 7



The Colonels led 6-0 with a six-run third inning, but had to hold on down the stretch to win at Sonoraville on Friday night, 8-7.


The host Phoenix narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the fourth inning and 7-6 in the fifth.  Cass added a run in the sixth inning to lead 8-6, then halted a Sonoraville comeback in the final frame.


Dustin Wallin (2.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 5K) collected the Colonels’ pitching win by retiring the final eight outs on the mound. Noah Rogers (2.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 4BB, 4K) made the pitching start for Cass, and Easton Lee (2 IP, 6R, 3ER, 6H, 2BB, 2K) pitched in the middle innings.


Rogers went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Maddox Koontz produced two hits with one RBI. Dawson Warner (two RBi) and Cooper Rampley each added one hit. Kasey Jacobs drove in a Colonels’ run with a sacrifice fly.


The loss dropped Sonoraville to 4-6 on the season.


Cass (3-6) begins Region 7-AAAA action on Tuesday at Dalton at 5:30 p.m.



WHITEFIELD ACADEMY 7, WOODLAND 0


Whitefield Academy scored five runs in the second inning and added two more runs in the fourth on Friday evening en route to a 7-0 win over the visiting Woodland Wildcats.


The Wolfpack used four pitchers in their victory and limited Woodland to only two hits while striking out a dozen.


Clayton Wilkes (1.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Woodland and was tabbed with the loss. Zaylen Cochran (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K), Logan Smith (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K), and Brylon Reynolds (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats.


Kallen Reynolds and Jonathan Ryan each had one hit for Woodland.


The Wolfpack improved to 8-2.


Woodland (5-3) opens Region 7-AAAA play on Tuesday at Cedartown at 5:30 p.m.
