Heritage-Catoosa won the girls’ team title, followed by Calhoun and Gilmer. The Calhoun boys won the region championship with 210 points, followed by Heritage-Catoosa (155.33) and Adairsville (86) in the seven-team field. - Brumlow advances to the Final Stage of U.S. Open qualifying
April 22, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Cartersville High School junior golfer Bodie Brumlow carded a 4-under par 68 on Monday at the U.S. Open Local Qualifying held at Druid Hills Golf Club, and has advanced to the Final Stage qualifying. The 126th U.S. Open will be held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, on June 18-21, 2026. Brumlow, a University of Georgia commit, was one of seven professional and amateur players to advance from a field of 132 golfers at Druid Hills. Professional Chris Petefish of Cumming was the medalist with a 6-under par 66 on the par-72, 6,947-yard layout. Brumlow tied fellow amateurs Clark Akers (Nashville, Tennessee) and Harris Barth (Atlanta) with 68s. Professionals Steve Kibare (Canton), Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Florida), and JP Griffin (Buford) also advanced. Final-stage qualifying will take place on May 18, May 25, and primarily on June 8 at various U.S. locations, including Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground.

April 22, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Georgia Highlands College softball won both games of a conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Carol Brown Field in Cartersville against South Georgia State. The Chargers won the first game 4-1 and outlasted the Hawks in the second game, 8-7. Single runs in the first, second, third, and fifth innings overcame an early 1-0 deficit for the first GHC win. A walk-off run on a passed ball lifted the Chargers to an extra-inning victory in Game 2. Pitcher Emily Ferro (7 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2BB, 8K) fanned eight and limited South Georgia State to a single run in the opener. Haley Curtis (8 IP, 7R, 5ER, 11H, 4BB, 2K) went the distance in the circle to collect the pitching victory in Game 2. Emmalee Freeman (double, three RBI), Emma Darrow (triple, RBI), and Mary Catherine Kimball (double, RBI) led the GHC offense with three hits in the doubleheader. Athens Hudson (RBI), Ahmani Green (triple, double), Lily Branch, and Ferro had two hits. CeCe Williams (triple, RBI), Anslee Logan (sac fly, two RBI), and Gracie Azpeitia (two RBI) each added one hit. Georgia Highlands (24-15, 13-6 GCAA) plays a three-game series on Friday and Saturday at South Georgia State (9-17, 5-11).

Allatoona won the girls’ title with 208.5 points, followed by Hiram (117), Cartersville (116), and Woodland (81). The Cass girls were sixth (68) in the eight-team field. The Cartersville boys scored 210 points, followed by Allatoona (169), Cedartown (79), and Woodland (72). The Cass boys were seventh (38). The top four placers in each event at the region meet advanced to the Sectional Meet at North Oconee High School on May 2. - Lady Tigers dominate Douglass-Atlanta, advance to Sweet Sixteen
April 21, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville High School girls soccer team delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night at home, shutting out the visiting Douglass-Atlanta Astros 10-0 in a first-round Class AAA playoff matchup. Adairsville’s midfielders and strikers completely controlled possession throughout the contest, preventing the Astros from registering a single shot on goal. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half, which was shortened to 20 minutes due to the lopsided scoreline. Ella Edwards got the scoring started early, finding the net in the 4th minute off an assist from Alexa Damer. Edwards added another goal just a minute later in the 5th minute, this time assisted by Addi Jerauld. She completed her hat trick in the 9th minute with her third goal of the night, again set up by Damer. Alexa Damer then scored in the 10th minute off a feed from Braylynn Martin. Martin got on the scoreboard herself in the 12th minute, assisted by Sam Gough. Damer added her second goal of the match in the 13th minute with an assist from Martin, and Alivia Joslin capped the first-half barrage with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Gough. In the second half, Ryleigh Parker scored in the 24th minute off an assist from Carly Edwards. Sam Gough notched a goal in the 32nd minute, assisted by Piper Tordrup, and Alexa Damer finished the scoring with her third goal of the game in the 33rd minute, again set up by Tordrup. The victory improved Adairsville’s record to 16-2 and sent the Lady Tigers into the Class AAA Sweet Sixteen. Adairsville will host Johnson-Gainesville (12-5) next Tuesday night. The Knights advanced with a 10-0 first-round win over Mt. Zion-Jonesboro on Tuesday. Douglass-Atlanta’s season came to an end with a 10-5 record.
- Canes finish regular season strong with runner-up finish at Billy Peek Invitational
April 21, 2026 Staff report The Cartersville High School boys golf team wrapped up its 2026 regular season on a high note, claiming second place at the two-day Billy Peek Invitational. The Canes once again finished runner-up to Harrison. Sophomore Reid Henson led the way for Cartersville, posting an impressive 4-under par total over the two days and earning a spot on the all-tournament team. Seniors Carsen Stanfield and Carter Rice provided strong support, with Stanfield finishing at even par and Rice at 1-over for the tournament. Junior Bodie Brumlow was unavailable for the first round as he competed in a U.S. Open qualifying event. He returned for the second round and fired an even-par 72. Of note, senior Carsen Stanfield, who will continue his golf career at the University of South Carolina Upstate, was awarded the annual Billy Peek Scholarship worth $1,500. With the regular season complete, the Cartersville boys and girls golf teams now turn their attention to the postseason. The area tournament is set for Monday at the Governor’s Towne Club in Acworth.

April 21, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Georgia Highlands Chargers continued their successful regular-season run through the GCAA schedule on Tuesday with an 11-5 win at the Andrew College Tigers in Cuthbert. The Chargers, who have already secured the conference regular-season title, broke a 3-3 tie by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning. GHC then added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth. Starting pitcher David McKechnie (4 IP, 1ER, 2H, 4BB, 1K) was one of six pitchers utilized by Georgia Highlands. Dozier Swain (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 1BB), Evan Doss (1.2 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1K), Jackson Scali (0.1 IP), Jack Burns (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K), and Braxton Wade (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2K) each worked short stints on the mound. Aidan Larkin (home run, two RBI), Hayden Miller (double, sac fly, two RBI), Caden Marcos (solo home run), Andrew Bishop (double), and Mason Moore each contributed two hits in the victory. Emiliano Dominguez (three RBI), Carson Page (RBI), and Kenton Collier (RBI) each added one hit. The loss dropped Andrew College to 17-27 overall and 8-15 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Georgia Highlands (40-11, 20-4) visits East Georgia State on Thursday at 3 p.m.

MLB / MiLB MASON BARNETT — MLB Athletics; Las Vegas Aviators (A’s Triple-A affiliate; 5th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a five-inning start for the Triple-A Aviators at the Reno Aces on April 14 for his second win of the MiLB season. He allowed no runs on one hit and five walks while striking out seven. He was then called up to the MLB Athletics for a home relief appearance this past Sunday. Barnett needed 43 pitches to cover two-plus innings versus the White Sox in an eventual 7-4 loss. Since Barnett would have been unavailable to pitch for a day or two, the Athletics have summoned a fresh bullpen arm to take his roster spot. Barnett was optioned back to Las Vegas. The Aviators have a six-game series at home this week against the Salt Lake Bees. LOGAN MARTIN — Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants Double-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made his second pitching start for Richmond on April 14 and went 4-1/3 innings with no decision in an eventual 11-7 win at the Hartford Yard Goats. Martin allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk. He fanned four. The Flying Squirrels entered the week with a 12-2 record, leading the Eastern League Southwest Division. They host the Somerset Patriots for six games this week through Sunday. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Worcester Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … returning to action recently following a lingering left knee injury he suffered during the offseason Dominican Winter League, Seigler has gone 2-for-18 in five games at the Triple-A level against Columbus at home and on the road at Nashville. Both hits were doubles. He has two walks, one stolen base, and one RBI. The 26-year-old utility player started the year on the MLB Red Sox injured list after moving over from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason. Worcester entered the week with an 11-9 record. They host the Syracuse Mets for six games this week through Sunday. PGA TOUR AMERICAS BUCK BRUMLOW — 2nd yr. pro (University of Georgia; Cartersville HS) … shot 74-67 (1-under par) last Thursday and Friday, but missed the cut at the Brazil Open at the Rio Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro. The 36-hole cut was 5-under par on the 7,163-yard, par-71 layout. The tour moves to Argentina this week for the 94 Abierto del Centro Zurich. GOLF CHRISTINA SURCEY — Lipscomb University (So., Cartersville resident, North Cobb Christian) … recorded rounds of 71-76-74 (+5) and tied for 12th in the 69-player field at the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship held at Dothan Country Club in Dothan, Alabama. The Bisons finished fifth, behind North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, and Central Arkansas in the 12-team field. TENNIS EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won each of her singles matches last week as the Nighthawks lost at 14th-ranked Columbus State University, but won at Middle Georgia State University and Georgia Southwestern University. She played Line 6 singles vs. Columbus State, Line 5 vs. MGSU, and Line 3 vs. Georgia Southwestern. She lost doubles sets with partner Linn Goerdes in two of the matches, but was up 4-3 with partner Lauryn Swatski at Georgia Southwestern when their set was halted. UNG, ranked 11th by ITA, plays in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament this weekend at Columbus State. SYDNEY COPPOLA — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … won her Line 3 doubles set with partner Charlee Eidson and won her Line 6 singles match in straight sets on Sunday as the Vikings blanked Oglethorpe University, 7-0. On Saturday, facing the University of Mary Washington in Sewanee, Tennessee, she lost her Line 5 singles match and her Line 3 doubles match with Eidson. Berry faces Southwestern University (TX) on Friday in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Championship Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. TRACK AND FIELD KENDRICK PRICE — Troy University (So., Cartersville HS) … placed 54th (10.91) in the 100-meter dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend. The Penn Relays are next on the Trojans’ schedule this Thursday through Saturday. JAYLEN SCOTT — Reinhardt University (So., Cartersville HS) … finished seventh (126-4.50) in the discus throw April 15 at the Life University Mid Week Mini Meet in Marietta. The Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships begin on Thursday. BEACH VOLLEYBALL AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … playing with Flight 3 partner Kaylee Howell, the duo won three matches at the AVCA DIII National Championships in Gulf Breeze, Alabama, last Friday and Saturday. Berry defeated LaGrange College (3-0), East Texas Baptist (3-0), and Stevenson University (MD) (3-2) to reach the national championship match against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Crusaders won the title match 3-0, but the England-Howell duo was up one set when their match was halted. The Vikings won 20+ games for the second straight year, finishing 21-10 as Division III national runner-up. LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (Jr., Cartersville HS) … the 17th-ranked Gamecocks went 3-1 this past Friday and Saturday at the Stetson University Deland Cup while Lawson and her Flight 3 partner Evie Ziffer went 1-3. The duo won in three sets as the Gamecocks beat UNC Wilmington 4-1. Their losses were also in three sets as South Carolina defeated Georgia State and 14th-ranked Stetson, but lost 3-2 to 18th-ranked North Florida. The Gamecocks play Thursday and Friday in the Big 12 Conference Championships in Tucson, Arizona. LONDON MOULTRIE — Wingate University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … had a Flight 3 straight sets win with partner Amelia Talbott as the Bulldogs defeated McKendree University (MD) last weekend at the AVCA DII National Championships in Gulf Breeze, Alabama. The Flight 3 duo also suffered losses to Colorado Mesa and St. Leo University (FL), but won their match against Erskine College (SC). Wingate finished the season with a 13-21 record. SOFTBALL KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 1-for-11 with one walk in four losses last week — two to visiting Southern Wesleyan University (SC) and two at King University (TN). The Hawks finished the season with a 13-36 record overall and were 7-21 in Conference Carolinas action. They did not qualify for the Conference Carolinas tournament. Arnold batted .173 with eight RBI in 35 games and 33 starts. She had a .914 fielding percentage. HAYLEE DISHMON — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … was inserted as a pinch runner in both games of a doubleheader with Piedmont University on April 15 and scored one run as the Vikings won both games over the Lions. Berry plays a three-game home series with Sewanee-University of the South on Saturday and Sunday. ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 8-for-18 in six games last week as the Eagles went 4-2 with two losses at Brenau University and four wins at home in doubleheaders with Milligan University (TN) and Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Bobcats won the first game of Friday’s doubleheader 5-4, but the Chargers won the second game 6-1 and won on Saturday, 11-0. In the GHC pitching circle, Emily Ferro (7 IP, 5R, 4ER, 8H, 3BB, 6K) suffered the loss in Game 1 on Friday. Haley Curtis (7 IP, 1ER, 8H, 3BB, 4K) collected the win in Game 2, and CeCe Williams (5 IP, 0R, 5H, 3BB, 4K) tossed a shutout to win the final game of the weekend. Athens Hudson led the Chargers’ bats in the series with four hits, including two homers, one double, and three RBI. Emma Darrow (home run, double, three RBI) and Anslee Logan (one RBI) followed with three hits. Emmalee Freeman had two hits in the series, including one home run, one triple, and five RBI. Ahmani Green contributed a two-run homer. Williams (double, two RBI), Ferro (RBI), Gracie Azpeitia, Mary Catherine Kimball, and Madelyn Johnson each added one hit during the series. East Georgia finished the series with a 23-23 record overall. The Bobcats are 8-11 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association games. The Chargers won 8-7 in Cartersville last Tuesday and 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader this past Saturday. East Georgia won 11-4 on Friday and 3-2 on Sunday in Swainsboro. Matthew Perkins (5 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for the Chargers in their win on Saturday and was credited with the win. Braxton Wade (1.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 3K) and Jack Burns (0.1 IP, 1K) pitched in relief. Single runs in three of the first four innings and two runs in the sixth gave the Chargers a 5-1 lead. East Georgia scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but got no closer. Kenton Collier, Aidan Larkin (double), Mason Moore (double, RBI), Emiliano Dominguez, Caden Marcos, and Harper Davenport had hits for GHC. Carson Page added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. In Saturday’s final game of the series, the Bobcats led 2-0 through three innings with a run in the second and a solo home run in the third. The Chargers tied the score in the sixth with two runs, but East Georgia collected a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth on a walk and two singles. Six Chargers had one hit each, including Moore (double, RBI), Marcos (RBI), Page, Larkin, Collier, and Andrew Bishop. East Georgia finished the series with an 18-26 record overall. The Bobcats are 9-13 in conference play. Fifteenth-ranked Georgia Highlands (39-11, 19-4) has clinched the GCAA regular-season title with five games remaining. The Chargers visit Andrew College on Tuesday and play at East Georgia on Thursday.

Friday’s wins wrapped up a three-game series sweep during the week by Cass. Dustin Wallin tossed a five-inning, one-hitter in the opening victory, and the Colonels built a 12-1 lead in Game 2 before holding on in the late innings to secure the sweep. Wallin struck out eight and walked two in the shutout. Andrew Ray (1.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 2K) was credited with the pitching win in the second game in relief of starter Easton Lee (3.1 IP, 6R, 5ER, 7H, 1BB, 5K). Noah Rogers (2 IP, 5R, 2ER, 1H, 3BB, 2K) pitched the final two innings for Cass. Noah Rogers led the Colonels’ offense with four hits, including one double and four RBI in the doubleheader. Kasey Jacobs followed with three hits and two RBI. Landon Lamb (sac fly, three RBI), Aidan Castaneda (three RBI), DJ Vigil (sac fly, two RBI), and Wallin (double, RBI) each finished the night with two hits. Zach Stiles (double, three RBI), Landon Farmer (sac fly, two RBI), and Maddox Koontz (double, two RBI) added one hit apiece. The Hornets finished the season 9-22 overall and 2-19 in Region 7-AAAA. The victory completed a three-game series sweep for the Bruins. Adairsville scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Tigers’ comeback efforts ended there. Kaden Coker (1.1 IP, 3ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) made the pitching start for the Tigers and was the pitcher of record. Brody Varner (0.2 IP, 4ER, 2H, 4BB, 1K), David Sutton (3 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2BB, 2K), and Hunter Dudley (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) pitched in relief for Adairsville. McCayden Hufstetler had two hits for the Tigers. Braden Slocumb (RBI), Matthew Cook (RBI), and Tyler Parker each added one hit. Northwest Whitfield improved to 16-14 overall and finished 11-7 in region play. Adairsville (18-11, 10-8) will begin the Class AAA state playoffs next Friday. The Tigers’ site and opponent will be determined this weekend by the final GHSA Postseason Rankings. Adairsville entered Friday’s game as the No. 16 team. Northwest Whitfield was ranked No. 20. WOODLAND 5, OSBORNE 2 The Woodland Wildcats concluded their 2026 baseball season Friday with a 5-2 non-region win at Osborne. The host Cardinals led 2-1 through the first six innings, but a four-run top of the seventh lifted Woodland to a season-closing victory. Logan Smith (3 IP, 2ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) made the pitching start for the Wildcats. Alfredo Romo (4 IP, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 3K) tossed four shutout innings to collect the pitching win. Jacob Tatum led the Woodland offense with three hits, including one home run, one double, and four RBI. Tommy Risner (RBI), Clayton Wilkes, and Romo each added one hit. Osborne dropped to 9-22 on the season. Woodland completed the year with a 14-16 record.
