Canes finish sweep of Dalton; Colonels end season with sweep of Hornets

Cartersville, Cass, and Woodland wrapped up regular season play on Thursday evening with region doubleheaders.


GAME 1: CARTERSVILLE 13, DALTON 3

GAME 2: CARTERSVILLE 10, DALTON 0


The Hurricanes pounded 14 hits and scored in each inning after the first to defeat visiting Dalton in six innings in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.


Cartersville led 3-1 after three innings, but added ten runs over their last three frames to close out the Catamounts in six innings by run-rule.


Avery Shiflett (5 IP, 3R, 2ER, 4H, 3BB, 9K) made the pitching start for the Canes and collected the win with nine strikeouts. Logan Shrewsbury (1 IP, 0H, 1K) retired the side in order in the top of the sixth.


Andrew Purdy (home run, three RBI) had three hits. Julez Pratt (triple, RBI), David Vargas (double, RBI), and Tristan McKibben (double) had two hits in the opening win. Thomas Peters (home run, two RBI), Casen Cochran (RBI), Cole Crawford (RBI), Brayden Logan, and Nolan Elrod added one hit.


The Canes started quickly in Game 2, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Cartersville took advantage of three Dalton errors in the first inning and two walks.


Purdy (3 IP, 0R, 3H, 3BB, 5K) and Maddox Frazier (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 5K) combined for ten strikeouts in the shutout.


Purdy had two hits, including one double and two RBI. Vargas (double, RBI), Pratt (RBI), and McKibben (RBI) added one hit. Logan drove in one run.


Dalton (20-10, 13-8) will be the No. 3 seed from Region 7-AAAA in next week's state playoffs. Cartersville (23-7, 19-2) will be the No. 2 seed and host Cambridge in the first round, beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.



GAME 1:  CASS 7, HIRAM 2

GAME 2:  CASS 5, HIRAM 0


Jacob Johnson struck out twelve in the first game of the Colonels’ home doubleheader with Hiram Thursday night. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and six walks to earn the pitching victory. Nic Wright entered to retire the final out on a pop-up to catcher Hunter Lovett.


Cass led 4-0 after three innings and added on with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning. The Hornets posted their two runs in the top of the sixth, narrowing the lead to 5-2.


Chase Tatum (double, two RBI), Lovett (triple, RBI), and Landon Lamb (triple) led the Colonels’ offense with two hits. Zach Stiles (triple, RBI), Johnson (double, RBI), and Trenton Elario added one hit for Cass.


In Game 2, Lovett tossed six shutout innings and struck out eight as the Colonels blanked the Hornets 5-0. He also had one hit and one RBI for the Cass offense. The lone hit off Lovett was a two-out single in the sixth inning. Wright, who had three hits, including a double in the nightcap, retired the side in the seventh inning and struck out two. Tatum added one RBI on a groundout in the fifth inning.


Thursday’s losses left Hiram with a 7-23 overall mark and 2-19 in Region 7-AAAA.


Cass finished the year with a 15-14 record. The Colonels were 10-11 in region play



GAME 1: ALLATOONA 11, WOODLAND 1

GAME 2: ALLATOONA 15, WOODLAND 0


The sixth-ranked Buccaneers secured the 2025 Region 7-AAAA title with their first win on Thursday evening and then swept visiting Woodland, 11-1 in five innings and 15-0 in four innings.


Allatoona pitchers Jacob Jenkins (5 IP, 1R, 0ER, 5H, 3BB, 5K) and Davis Bargeron (4 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 6K) limited the Wildcats’ bats to only five hits in the doubleheader.


Conner Lujan had two hits, including one double, for Woodland in the opening game on Thursday. Grant Tidwell, Jonathan Ryan, and Alfredo Romo had the other Wildcats’ hits. Lucas Baker drove in one run.


Allatoona finished the regular season 27-3, and the Bucs were 20-1 in region play.


Woodland completes the year with a 14-15 record, and was 8-13 in Region 7-AAAA.
