Adairsville baseball wrapped up regular season and Region 7-AAA play Friday night with a six-inning home win over Northwest Whitfield.
The Bruins grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers gained the lead for good in the bottom of the second, 3-1.
Adairsville added an insurance run in the fourth, and after Northwest narrowed their deficit to 4-2, the Tigers posted a seven-run fifth inning to seal the game away.
Hudson Parr was strong on the mound with a 4-⅔ innings start. He yielded only two unearned runs on six hits with no walks. Parr fanned five. Jarrett Scott retired four of five batters faced to wrap up the win. Scott struck out one.
Five Tigers had two hits each, including Ethan Long (double, four RBI), Peyton Bowen (RBI), Brody Varner, Isaac Burnett (two RBI), and Westin Barfield. Harrison Cole added one hit and three RBI. Scott contributed one RBI on a sacrifice fly.
"I'm proud of how these guys finished region play," commented Adairsville head coach Billy Roper. "We had a rocky start with a 2-4 record, but won 10 of the last 12 to secure the No. 2 seed from our region."
Although Adairsville won two of three in the head-to-head series, Northwest Whitfield finished 17-13 overall and 13-5 in league play to win the Region 7-AAA title.
The Tigers (17-8, 12-6) finished one game back as region runner-up.
Adairsville will learn its first-round opponent for the state playoffs on Monday. The Tigers will host a best-of-three series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday.
