The Adairsville Lady Tigers traded some early goals with the visiting Pickens Lady Dragons Wednesday night, but owned the pitch in the second half for a 9-2 non-region victory.

Adairsville led 4-2 at the intermission before scoring five unanswered goals in the second half.

Ella Edwards scored an unassisted goal in the 26th minute and had the assist on a goal by Alexa Damer one minute later to build the Tigers’ halftime lead. The first two Adairsville goals came off the foot of Alivia Joslin in the 4th minute and an “own goal” by Pickens in the 11th minute.

“Our talk at halftime was mostly led by our players,” noted Lady Tigers’ head coach David Sexauer. “They talked about composure, ball possession, good passes, and good decisions. The first 15 to 20 minutes of the second half were electric and we looked like a different team. We were also pleased with the play of Chikondi Banda in goal.”

The Lady Tigers scored back-to-back goals in the first four minutes of the second half and controlled play moving forward. Victoria Loudon led the fullback line for Adairsville and Samantha Gough made key contributions in her first game after joining the team from basketball.

Ella Edwards scored the Tigers’ first two goals of the second half. Both goals were assisted by Addi Jerauld. Braylynn Martin scored in the 56th minute off an assist from Damer. Joslin added the final two Adairsville goals in the 72nd and 76th minutes. Carly Edwards and Martin were credited with assists.

The loss dropped the Lady Dragons to 1-1 on the season.

Adairsville (3-0) hosts Murray County on Friday.
